Ruth First Scholar 2023-24

Scholastic Mpofu is from Zimbabwe

He has a BEng in Civil & Water Engineering from the National University of Science & Technology in Zimbabwe. He has done voluntary work as a junior site engineer on the construction of a new students’ research hub at his university. Also, he has designed, implemented and successfully managed infrastructure projects ranging from water and wastewater reticulation systems to community schools, access bridges and road constructions for the local authority in his hometown. He is also a part of the HS Foundation, a charity that donates clothing to young underprivileged schoolgirls.

At Durham Scholastic took an MSc in Civil Engineering. He was a member of St Chad’s College, which supports the scholarship by providing subsidized accommodation for all Ruth First Scholars. He was very active in the College football team, scoring lots of goals.

Scholastic passed his MSc with Merit and in October 2024 took up a graduate internship with the marine engineering company Becket Rankine in Bristol.
